AFA Spring 2011 Rescue: 2 Piglets, 2 Layer Hens and a Bobby Calf saved
_
As summer begins
we see spring’s new life rising high from the soil and new animals born into
this planet. Unfortunately for most of the animals born into the agriculture
industry, their fate is exploitation, abuse and premeditated death. This
spring, AFA rescued two piglets from a pig factory farm, one bobby calf who had
been separated from his mother, and two young layer hens from an industrial “free
range” farm.

Solidarity with Spanish Animal Rights Activists
On Friday 24th of June, animal rights activists in Auckland held a demo on the International Day of Solidarity for the 12 Spanish Animal Rights Activists, who were arrested and detained on charges relating to the liberation of 20,000 minks from a fur farm. Animal rights activists from various groups came together and held a small demonstration outside of the Consulate of Spain, which is just a small office inside an arcade, and it was locked. We handed out leaflets and spoke to quite a few people about what is going on. People were very supportive. As there appeared to be nobody at the office at the time, we left some signage, stickers and leaflets behind.

20th February 2011: At 6.30am this morning two activists from the Coalition to End
Factory Farming* locked themselves onto the silo of a battery hen farm

'colony cages' to replace battery cages. The Coalition's aim is to end
factory farming and ban all cages and draw attention specifically to the
plight of layer hens today. Media coverage of the action is available
